Module 3 of 5Lesson 2 of 3~18 min

From framing to plan, then to code

A coding agent produces far better results when it plans before it writes. This lesson teaches you to write a structured build request, review and approve the proposed plan before any code is written, then get a first version running on your own machine so you can try it right away.

Lesson objective

By the end of this lesson, you will be able to write a five-block build request for a coding agent, get a plan approved in plan mode before any code is written, and obtain a first version running locally.

Topics covered

  • prompting a coding agent
  • plan mode
  • Claude Code
  • first version

Where it fits

Set up your machine and generate the first version

How do I get a first version running on my machine, and understand what was created?

Lessons in this module

  1. Set up your workstation
  2. From framing to plan, then to code (this lesson)
  3. Understand what the agent built

What you will learn in this module

This lesson is part of the course Build and ship a web app with an AI coding agent

  • Write a build request for a coding agent (context, scope, constraints, verification) and get a plan approved before any code is written.
  • Set up the environment (terminal, Node.js, Git, Claude Code), run the application locally and explain what the main files of the generated project are for.
